Arch Communication Styles

The “A.R.C.H.” method of identifying communication styles includes four basic types of behavior. A.R.C.H. stands for A – Analytical Green, R – Realistic Gold, C – Courageous Orange, H – Harmonious Blue. Each person is a combination of all four styles but one or two will tend to be stronger than the others. This method is based on some very extensive research including the work of Hippocrates, Carl Jung, Myers-Briggs and David Kiersey. We have given each type a color for easy reference. The four styles are:

ANALYTICAL GREEN

  • Analytical, global, conceptual
  • Seeks knowledge and understanding in a wide variety of subjects
  • Inventive, logical, perfectionistic
  • Lives by own standards
  • Needs explanations and answers
  • Values intelligence, insight, fairness, and justice
  • Abstract, hypothetical, investigative
  • Tends to not show emotions
  • A non-conformist, visionary and problem solver
  • Work is play
  • Loves to develop models and explore ideas
  • Dislikes repetition and redundancy
  • Can have difficulty in expressing feelings.

RESPONSIBLE GOLD

  • Loyal, dependable, prepared
  • Needs to follow rules and respect authority
  • Thorough, sensible, punctual
  • Strong sense of what is right and wrong in life
  • Needs to be useful and belong
  • Faithful, stable, organized
  • Derives much satisfaction from completing tasks
  • Values home, family, and tradition
  • Caring, concerned, concrete
  • Believes that work comes before play
  • Good at handling details
  • Traditional, conservative, patriotic
  • Likes history and culture
  • Active in charity work.

COURAGEOUS RED/ORANGE

  • Optimistic, eager, bold, physical
  • Values skill, resourcefulness, and courage
  • Impulsive generous, impactful
  • Considers life as a game, here and now
  • Acts on a moment’s notice
  • Needs fun, variety, stimulation and excitement
  • Witty, charming, spontaneous
  • Good sense of humor
  • A natural troubleshooter, performer and competitor
  • Bored and restless with jobs that are routine
  • Needs independence and freedom
  • Learns by doing and experiencing rather than by listening and reading.

HARMONIOUS BLUE

  • Enthusiastic, imaginative, idealistic
  • needs to feel unique and authentic
  • Warm, compassionate, sincere, spiritual
  • Looks for the meaning and significance in life
  • Excellent communicator
  • Can blend in easily with all types of people
  • A team player
  • Values relationships and inspiring others
  • Sympathetic, personal, peaceful, flexible
  • Artistic, sensitive, poetic
  • A natural romantic
  • Responds better to encouragement than competition
  • Seeks recognition
  • Very uncomfortable with conflict.
